About us

What are we actually doing here, or why are we doing JASpeed?

We love and live the wonderful hobby of slotracing. We try to show this great pastime to other people and get them excited about it. Of course we earn our living with this place, but that's just a nice side effect when you live your hobby and turn it into a job.

JAspeed has been selling everything for the racetrack online and in store since 1997. Four people work here who deal exclusively with the topic of car racing and are available to you every day. On almost 300 square meters we have more than 9000 different car racing track items ready for you.

Founded in 1997 under the company name carrerashop.de, the first steps were taken with an online shop. The shop was housed in a 120 square meter extension in the Dhünn district of Wermelskirch, a large 4-lane Carrera track with a suspension bridge across the track was the jewel of the shop. The first 24-hour races were held and organized like small folk festivals with lots of spectacle. More than 200 visitors were the reward for the work. With the friendly help of the Eicker company and the then, unfortunately deceased, Carrera AD Christian Lennartz, the product range was gradually expanded. With the number of new suppliers, the number of articles also inevitably grew quickly to 1,500. Storage space was needed, so walls were put up, the space under the racetrack was developed as additional storage space and collection contracts were concluded with a parcel service.

The first major renovation took place in 2007. The work became more and more, the internet business and the shop grew, and my own wife had to help. The large German market leader made life difficult for us because of trademark law and the name of the website. Despite prior approval, we had to give up the company name and the website because a letter from a friendly law firm in Hamburg fluttered into the house with a 6-digit dispute over trademark law.
A new name was quickly found that sounded great and established itself. The opening hours of the shop were extended, we were open every day, including Saturdays. Customers even came from Benelux to shop in the store. In the meantime, more than 4000 items adorned our sales rooms and warehouse. Everything was bursting at the seams. New external storage areas were rented for the large deliveries before Christmas. A new merchandise management and a new online shop were needed, there were more than 1000 customers per day on our website. The private label La Bostella was added, as was the lighting series KES.

In 2011, the racetrack was rebuilt with the hard-working help of many brownies. Under the slogan: "Welcome to the workers' festival in the Dhünn company holiday camp, dear friends of Carrera-Plaste", the old racetrack was demolished for months and a new one was built. A book was written and distributed over the Christmas period. You can read a fun summary of what happened at http://racejam.jimdo.com.
Two years later it was all over again. In 2013, the boss bought a 1400 square meter plot of land with a hall and a house. One street down and perfect for a shop, warehouse and racetrack.
We had practice in dealing with the wrecking ball and rebuilding. So another new track.
The number of items grew to almost 10,000, but the warehouse still has space. The second shipping service provider was taken on board. Two employees were hired. The number of packages exceeds 100 on good days. The opening hours of the shop have been adjusted to reflect the shift in customer shopping behavior.

Since the summer of 2016 there has finally been a new shop, another server and a new merchandise management system. Four-digit visitor numbers per day in the shop need air on the server. We now work with real-time inventory. When the last item is sold in the store, it is no longer visible in the online shop 20 seconds later. It should be so.

In 2020 and 2021, sales grew to more than 15,000 shipments per year, also due to the pandemic. Again the question arises whether we are going to take the next step. It's beautiful here, but if
Articulated lorries with 10 or more pallets of goods are standing on the street and waiting to be unloaded, it will also be on 300 square meters
narrow and unloading without a forklift is torture. In the meantime, their own adult children help out besides school, shipping has been optimized with another packing station and new IT, and the shop has been remodeled again. another employee for technology was hired. A new online shop is in the works.
